MIMA’s Statement on CE and UKCA marks for construction products

MIMAs Statement on CE and UKCA marks for construction products

At present, both CE and UKCA marks are accepted conformity markings for construction products placed on the market in Great Britain, and either (or both) marks may be used.

CE mark

The CE mark indicates that a construction product is in conformity with its declared performance and that it has been assessed according to a harmonised European standard (EN) or a European Technical Assessment (ETA) has been issued for it.

UKCA mark

The UK government has stated that it intends to end recognition of the CE mark for construction products in Great Britain, and that a new UKCA mark will need to be affixed to construction products placed on the market in Great Britain from 30 June 2025.

Rules around affixing the UKCA mark are broadly equivalent to CE marking. However, the assessment of conformity for UKCA marking must be undertaken by a UK-approved body, and further clarification is awaited regarding how this process can be achieved for some product types and essential characteristics.

MIMA members’ products

All construction products within the scope of harmonised European standards and placed by MIMA members on the UK market are CE-marked.

Individual MIMA members are keeping under review the requirements for, and their use of, UKCA marking.
